Meet the Makers: Hill Country Chefs, Sommeliers & Storytellers

At Southbank & Co, we love introducing our guests and clients to the people who make the Hill Country a destination worth savoring. In this first feature of our Meet the Makers series, we spotlight a few locals who inspire us with their craft and care.

Chef Alejandra Rios, Casa Brava

Known for her modern takes on regional Tex-Mex, Chef Rios believes food is a way of remembering. "My grandmother never wrote anything down. So now, I build flavor from feeling." Her summer squash tamales with goat cheese crema are not to be missed.

Emily Tran, Wine Director at The Pecan Street Cellar

"We don’t just pour wine here. We pair people with experiences." Emily curates seasonal flight menus that include regional Hill Country wines and small-batch imports. Her philosophy? “Keep it approachable. Pour generously."

Will & Dana Evans, The Storyhouse

This husband-wife duo hosts live storytelling nights at their Gruene backyard space. "We believe stories are meant to be shared face to face," says Dana. Events are open to the public and usually include potluck dinners and candlelight.
